Set default prep and shipping costs

If most of your products have the same prep cost, or you pay about the same to post an FBM order, you can save those amounts as defaults. STK then uses them for new products with no cost of their own, so you don't have to keep entering them.

Set your defaults

  1. Open Settings. Go to the Cost of Goods section.
  2. Enter your Default Prep Cost. This is your usual cost per unit. It applies to new products that don't have a prep cost of their own.
  3. Enter your Default FBM Shipping Cost. There is a box for each marketplace. STK uses the one for that market on FBM orders with no shipping cost set.
  4. Click Update Cost of Goods Settings.

If you're VAT-registered, you may see an Including VAT and an Excluding VAT box. Fill in only one for each cost. If you fill in both, STK will ask you to remove one.

When a product is different

A default is only a starting point. If a product costs more to prep or post, give it its own figure: open Cost of Goods, click Edit Costs on the row, and change it there. Your other products keep the default. See how to update your costs.

Keep prep costs out of your profit

Some sellers would rather record prep as a business cost than per unit. If that's you, tick Exclude Prep Costs From Profit and Loss in the same section.

If you turn this on, prep costs no longer appear in your profit and loss figures. Add them on the Expenses & Credits page instead, or they won't be counted anywhere. See expenses and credits.

What these defaults don't cover

  • They don't set your unit cost. Every product still needs its own. See add your cost of goods.
  • You can still fill in prep and FBM shipping on the Cost of Goods sheet if you'd rather work by spreadsheet.
