VAT labels on your orders
If you open an order and see a VAT label you don't recognise, this page explains what it means and when you'd see it. You'll find these labels in the Profit & Loss column on Orders.
If you're VAT-registered
These two lines appear only if you're VAT-registered, and only when the order has an amount to show. If there is none, there is simply no line. Make sure your VAT settings are right first, because these figures depend on them.
- VAT: the VAT that's yours to deal with on this order. You'll see it on most sales.
- VAT Credit: on this order, STK shows a VAT credit in green. Your accountant can confirm how to treat it. You're most likely to see it on zero-rated products, or on a sale with no VAT on the price.
When Amazon handles the VAT
On some sales Amazon charges the buyer VAT at checkout and passes it on itself. STK shows that amount on its own line. These lines appear whenever an order has that amount, whether you're VAT-registered or not.
- VAT (IOSS) and VAT (Marketplace Facilitator): VAT Amazon handled on this order.
Which one applies is set by Amazon and the VAT rules of the countries involved. Either way, it isn't VAT you collected yourself. An order with Amazon-handled VAT can still show a VAT or VAT Credit line if it has other VAT of its own. If it has none, there is no separate VAT line.
If either label ends in the word Credit, the amount is a credit rather than a charge.
Sale (Net of VAT)
Most orders show a line called Sale. It changes to Sale (Net of VAT) when the sale price has no VAT in it. You'll usually see this on orders to places outside the VAT scheme you sell under. You can still see a VAT Credit on these orders.
What you need to do
Nothing. These labels show you what happened on an order. If you're unsure how to treat an amount on your VAT return, ask your accountant.
If you're checking one order, the Payout line on the same row is the best one to read alongside these labels. To see how the other figures fit together, read profit, ROI and margin.
